Privacy Policy
Last reviewed: October 20, 2026
This policy explains what information DOT Carrier Data, published by Cornelia Cove LLC, handles when you use the site and the free API, and what we do with public carrier records. It applies to dotcarrierdata.com and its API endpoints. Last updated October 20, 2026.
The short version
- You do not need an account to use the site or the API, and we do not ask for your name or email.
- We do not sell personal information and we do not run advertising trackers.
- We hide personal details found in FMCSA's census file, such as email addresses, cell phone numbers and company officer names.
Information we handle when you visit
Searches. When you search for a USDOT number, MC number or company name, the query is sent to our server so we can look it up in FMCSA data. We use queries only to return results. Search result pages are excluded from search engines.
Request data. The site runs on Cloudflare Workers. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard request data, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Your IP address is also used, briefly, to enforce the API limit of 60 requests per minute. We do not use request data to build profiles of visitors.
Caching. Carrier data fetched from FMCSA is cached for 24 hours, keyed by the carrier's USDOT number, not by who asked for it.
Fonts. Pages load the Geist typeface from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's font servers. Google's handling of that request is covered by Google's own privacy policy.
Carrier records
Carrier pages show public information that FMCSA publishes about registered motor carriers, such as the legal name, USDOT number, business address, fleet size, operating status, authority and safety rating. Some carriers are sole proprietors whose business details may include a personal name or home address. We show what FMCSA publishes for the business, but we do not display email addresses, cell phone numbers or company officer names from the census file, and the API omits the phone field.
We cannot change FMCSA's records. If your carrier information is wrong, update it with FMCSA, normally by filing an updated MCS-150. Our pages will reflect the change once FMCSA publishes it and our 24-hour cache refreshes.
Cookies
The site does not set advertising or analytics cookies. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies to protect the service from automated abuse.
Sharing
We share information only with service providers needed to run the site, chiefly Cloudflare for hosting; the DOT open data portal at data.transportation.gov, which receives the USDOT number, MC number or company name being searched so it can return matching census records; and FMCSA's QCMobile service, which receives the USDOT number being looked up. Those government services receive the lookup from our server, not from your browser, so they do not see your IP address through us. We may disclose information if required by law, for example in response to a valid subpoena or court order, and we may disclose it to protect the security of the service.
How long we keep information
We do not keep a database of visitors or searches. Cached carrier data expires after 24 hours. Short-lived operational logs kept by our hosting provider are used to troubleshoot errors and abuse and are retained according to Cloudflare's standard practices. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of privacy requests.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. We do not collect passwords or payment details, which limits what could be exposed. If you believe you have found a security problem, please email hello@corneliacove.com and give us a reasonable chance to fix it before you share it publicly.
Children
The site is a business tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices and requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. Because we keep very little, the quickest route is to email privacy@corneliacove.com. If you are a carrier and want us to review how your record appears, include the USDOT number and the detail in question. We will review every request, though we may keep showing public business information that FMCSA continues to publish.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, for example by adding analytics or advertising, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
